Contemplating life's sorrow and pain,
as memories skirt the edges of the mind, the soul ~
filling each tiny niche and aching crease of the heart
with emotion, with sadness, with unfortunate loss...
One dolefully asks, 'Is life worth its toll?'
Embracing mortality on a deeply reflective day,
as shadows blot the most brilliant of sun's rays ~
willing the warmth to creep into the breath, the bones
with seasons of joy, with seasons of laughter, as life unfolds...
One wistfully asks, 'Will I find that place where warmth lays?'
Wondering how, or why, time cedes to nothing,
nothing in the realm of human trangressions, human error ~
chilling the reality of 'always' and 'forevermore'
with hands of fate, with waves of destiny, with tendrils of truism...
One sadly asks, 'Is there reasoning to rule what time exacts?'
Yet, through the shifting shades and mottled colors of day,
a tiny thought grabs hold, holding tightly to ~
a slim ray of hope. One gleaming beam of optimism
with emotion, with love, with incredible meaning...
One humbly asks, 'Is life not worth its hours few?'
And there, on a bright spring morning,
is the budding flower prepared to start life anew ~
as shadows move to let a golden ray of light shine
with sustenance, with warmth, with gentle promise...
One prayerfully asks, 'God, may I share that warmth with you?'
~ And God's response? ~
'My light will lead you to the warmth you seek,
and on the fleeting wings of time...
faith will shield you from life's storms
for your troubles will be mine ~
and my wind will lift you o'er the burdens
that weight your soul with bitter blame,
and carry you to a timeless heaven
where every angel knows your name.'
Faith is everlasting....
(Much love to you, my blogger friends...)

Mattie,
God's Response in this is especially lovely and mindful of Shelley at his best. It expresses marvelously the essence of redemption. You may well tailor the lament itself to some specific sadness (there are no shortages of them), but may you always come to ask, "Is life worth its hours few?" and always find your answer in "a timeless heaven where every angel knows your name." Beautiful.

rb,
You don't know how much I enjoyed hearing from you! It has been too long.(smile)
You are right. There is never a shortage of sad moments. Sometimes, our faith is the only thing that can balance the hours between sadness and happiness.
As always, I'm incredibly moved by your comments. You are very kind and thoughtful...
I hope you and your family have a safe trip. Happy anniversary, in advance.(smile)
Blessings to you,
Mattie
Dear Mattie,
I know that despite all the trials and tribulations, your spirit embraces all that is positive in our sometime confusing world. Your resilience, your genuine warmth, shines through in all that you share with us.
Another wonderful posting, Mattie. Much love and respect, your way, Gary
Hi Mattie,
Hope you are doing well; have certainly mised you. It is so nice to read something from you. A lovely something indeed!
My thoughts and prayers with you,
Dixie
Gary, thank you for these wonderful comments. This is an older poem. My writing has slowed down these past few months. I'm trying to regain my strength, and some days I feel I have. There are still so many days that don't allow me much energy.
You're a good friend, Gary, for continuing to visit me. Bless you for that.(smile)
'Til next time,
Mattie
Dixie, how do you put up with me?(smile) I'm not keeping up with my blog...I'm not keeping up with my emails. I do promise to try to do better.(smile)
Thank you for sharing a moment or two with me.
Bless you always,
Mattie
p.s. I seem to be having problems with my computer freezing when I try to post my comments. Don't know what the problem is. Hopefully, it resolves...
Dear Mattie,
Just thought I would comment as you now follow my blog, "A Day in the Life". I hope you find it stimulating.
Anyway, having read some of your poems I just felt the need to comment as they are so good and indeed, beautiful. Where do you get your talent from? And, if they are not already published, I think that they should be.
Wishing you peace and wellness,
David.
David, it was very kind of you to leave me this generous comment. I do have one book published and had hoped to publish a book of my newer poems, but my health took a downward turn. I'll have to put that thought on the back burner for now.(smile)
I can't thank you enough for visiting me, and I'll be by your blog soon. I've a lot of catching up to do. Hope this old heart is up to the task.(smile)
Again, thank you,
Mattie
The human spirit burns so brightly that there always remains a tiny spark, even in the darkest of times, which with hope and faith can be rekindled to once again burn brightly. For those of faith, God offers his broad shoulders to comfort and support us. I know He is there for you always, my friend.
Yours is a beautiful plea for understanding, which anyone who has been through their own times of darkness will surely identify with and cannot help but be emotionally touched by your words.
God's blessings always,
Brenda
Brenda, what a wonderful comment this is. You have an innate sense of understanding and compassion. You are a blessing, dear friend.
At the end of the day, our faith must carry us through hardship, illness, and troubled times. Faith is our strength...our comfort. Without it, we fall beneath our burdens...
I can't thank you enough for your kind words, Brenda. What a wonderful spirit you possess.(smile)
Friends always...
